Coin is metal used for the time being as money, and stamped and issued by the authority of some State or Sovereign Power in order to be so used.
Bangladesh coin is metal stamped and issued by the authority of the Government ⁸⁴[∗ ∗ ∗] in order to be used as money; and metal which has been so stamped and issued shall continue to be Bangladesh coin for the purposes of this Chapter, notwithstanding that it may have ceased to be used as money.
Illustrations
(a) Cowries are not coin.
(b) Lumps of unstamped copper, though used as money, are not coin.
(c) Medals are not coin, inasmuch as they are not intended to be used as money.
(d) The coin denominated as the Company's taka is the Queen's coin.
(e) The "Farukhabad" taka, which was formerly used as money under the authority of the Government of India, is Bangladesh coin although it is no longer so used.
⁸⁴ The words “of Pakistan” were omitted by section 3 and 2nd Schedule of the Bangladesh Laws (Revision And Declaration) Act, 1973 (Act No. VIII of 1973).

দৃষ্টান্ত
(ক) কড়ি মুদ্রা নয়।
(খ) ছাপাঙ্কনহীন তামার পিণ্ড, অর্থ হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হলেও, মুদ্রা নয়।
(গ) পদক মুদ্রা নয়, যেহেতু সেগুলো অর্থ হিসেবে ব্যবহারের জন্য অভিপ্রেত নয়।
(ঘ) কোম্পানির টাকা নামে অভিহিত মুদ্রা রানির মুদ্রা।
(ঙ) “ফররুখাবাদ” টাকা, যা পূর্বে ভারত সরকারের কর্তৃত্বে অর্থ হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হতো, এখন আর ওইভাবে ব্যবহৃত না হলেও, বাংলাদেশি মুদ্রা।
⁸⁴ বাংলাদেশ আইন (সংশোধন ও ঘোষণা) আইন, ১৯৭৩ (১৯৭৩ সনের ৮ নং আইন)-এর ধারা ৩ ও দ্বিতীয় তফসিল দ্বারা “পাকিস্তানের” শব্দগুলো বিলুপ্ত।
